About Melvin Savings Bank
About Us
The Melvin Savings Bank was founded on December 12, 1912 by 5 local businessmen. We began as the German Savings Bank. Our name was changed to the Melvin Savings Bank on April 4, 1918, at a special meeting of shareholders that was held to discuss the German Savings Bank name.
In 1917, after serving in France and Germany during WWI, Thomas E. Benz began his long career in the Melvin Savings Bank as an assistant cashier. Tom’s father, John, was a local landowner and a shareholder in the Melvin Savings Bank. Tom has been followed in the Melvin Savings Bank by his son, John, and by his grandchildren, Jack, Jim, Gary and Nancy. In 1995 we opened our office in Sibley. The Melvin Savings Bank is proud of our long heritage in Osceola County and of the fact that we are the only locally owned bank remaining in Osceola County.
The Melvin Savings Bank has grown from an asset size of twenty thousand dollars in 1912 to a bank of over sixty million dollars today. We have 14 employees in our two locations. Our employees are involved in church offices, booster clubs, and community activities. The Melvin Savings Bank is an equal opportunity lender. Your deposits are FDIC insured. The Melvin Savings Bank continues to invest in the latest technology to provide you with the best service possible. We offer a full range of financial services that include competitive loan and deposit rates. We have an ATM location at the Sibley Super Foods store and at our new Sibley office. We have our own credit card and our own debit card. We offer telephone banking and internet banking without charge to all of our customers. We have recently invested in the technology that allows us to produce your personal and business checks locally in our Sibley office.
